Large group usually includes a presention by a speaker and a time for questions,
followed by casual discussion over snacks at the end of the meeting.
Depending on the week, it may also include prayer and worship.
Speakers may include Christian faculty members, pastors or leaders of local churches, members of GCF,
or other people willing to discuss topics pertinent to Christian academics and intellectuals.
Invitation of a speaker does not imply a complete endorsement of his or her ideas and lifestyle;
it simply recognizes that the speaker is knowledgable about a subject and can
meaningfully contribute to our thinking.

Although only gradually becoming visible in national politics, these alternative understandings of the relationship between faith and politics have become quite significant as a source of change at the grassroots. Given that all religion is contextualized based on social location, much of this new religiously inspired activism has remained relatively "hidden" because it is emerging within the "borderlands" of the United States which are places created by the intense cross-border migration that occurs in the era of globalization. New forms of Christian justice activism are also emerging among "cosmopolitan" Christians, who come from positions of greater privilege, but have developed deep empathy with the marginalized as a result of profound encounters with the "other" often while living within poor urban communities or the developing world.
Large Group (Dec 6, 2007)
We heard hearing from the Hon. Judge William McCurrine, who spoke about justice in terms of an individual's relationship with God.
Abstract
Bill McCurine will explore the issue of justice and the Gospel for the individual, focusing on Romans 1-3, with particular emphasis on chapter 3. This talk will not concern the social gospel, but the implications of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the individual. What is justice in terms of man's relationship with God? By what standard does God judge men? Is such judgment fair? How should man respond to God's prospective judgment?
