together to hang out and have breakfast with one another. Everyone who
came had a great time!
Prayer/Donations for Tsunami Victims (January 6, 2005)
Large Group Christmas Party/Clothes Drive collection (December 16, 2004)
- GCF had a very nice Christmas get-together on December 16th. We sang
various Christmas carols, had some nice Christmas snacks, and enjoyed each
other's company. Afterwards, we collected and sorted clothes for the GCF
clothing drive. We were blessed to have such a tremendous amount donated
by many people! Clothes donated benefited both City of Refuge and Coast
Vineyard's Branch ministries.
Integration Dinner (December 14, 2004) - December's integration dinner
was hosted by John. The topic for the night focused on how to share the
gospel with academics. Some of the time was spent looking at some
personal stories from the book "Finding God at Harvard" which relates to
how academics became Christians. Overall, it was a time to examine and
think about the role of Christians in the lives of academics and how God
used those Christians to bring those people to Himself.
Women's day out/Men's breakfast (December 11, 2004) - The women and men
planned some fun, relaxing activities with finals over. The women went
out to do some shopping, have a lunch at Mimi's Cafe, and enjoy a
Christmas movie. The men had a nice breakfast get-together at John's
place just to talk and enjoy each other's company. Overall it was a great
day to strengthen fellowship among people.
Thanksgiving Potluck (November 25, 2004) - For people who stayed around
San Diego for Thanksgiving, GCF hosted a potluck at Chad and Karen
Luttrell's place. There was plenty of food to eat and fun board games to
be played by everyone! It was a great way to spend Thanksgiving day.
Cuyamaca trail rebuilding (November 20, 2004) - Various people in GCF
went to help rebuild trails in Cuyamaca State Park. Cuyamaca has many
beautiful hiking trails but unfortunately was hit hard by last year's
fires. This was a day long event that greatly helped our local
environment.
GCF helps Branch ministry (November 20, 2004) - Also on November 20th,
some GCFer's went to Mission Beach to help Coast Vineyard Church with
their "Branch" homeless ministry. This was an opportunity to serve food
and clothes to the homeless. In addition, it was just a great way to
listen and pray for them as well as just loving them. There was
definitely a feeling of Thanksgiving among the homeless who were there.
Large Group Food Drive collection (November 18, 2004) - GCF planned a two
week long food drive collection for the San Diego Food Bank. On November
18th, we collected all the food at our large group meeting. When the food
was delivered, we found out that people had donated a total of 539lbs. for
the drive! This indeed was a tremendous success and a great way to help
out people in need before the Thanksgiving holiday. What a blessing!
Integration Dinner (November 16, 2004) - Yueng hosted November's
integration dinner. The main topic for the night was Christianity and the
Environment. Items discussed included what Christian attitudes should be
towards the natural world, specifically with regards to the issues of
climate change, consumption and population.
Integration Dinner (October 29, 2004) - Kyle hosted the integration
dinner in October. Since the dinner was close to election night, the
topic was: "Influencing the world through voting: What characteristics of
political candidates matter?" Issues discussed included what factors
Christians should consider when making their choices on Election Day.
Ladies Desert Night (October 25, 2004) - Kristen hosted a "Ladies Dessert
Night" on October 25th. This was an opportunity for the GCF women to hang
out and bring some great desserts to share with one another.
GCF trip to Little Italy (October 12, 2004) - This was a relaxed evening
of hanging out and eating good food at Cafe Zucchero. It was a nice way
to get to see more of San Diego and enjoy a nice restaurant.
Hiking Trip: Torrey Pines (October 9, 2004) - A group of GCFer's went to
go hiking on October 9th. We hiked along the ocean and up the cliffs of
Torrey Pines state reserve and had a chance to splash in the ocean as
well. For the plant enthusiast, there were various types of desert
vegetation to be seen along the trial (amazing since it is so close to the
beach!). It was a great time to enjoy each others company and the beauty
of God's creation.
Disc golf at Balboa Park (October 3, 2004) - Some people from GCF
went to go play disc golf in Balboa Park. Disc golf is a fun game very
similar to regular golf except you use Discs similar to frisbees. The goal
is to make it into the "hole", which is a metal basket, in as few throws
as possible. People definitely had a fun time learning how to play it!
GCF trip to Getty (October 2, 2004) - The GCF of UC Irvine invited us to
visit the Getty museum with them on October 2nd. Going to the museum was
definitely a treat since it is arguably the best art museum in Southern
California. It was a great way to connect with another fellowship and
also have some fun ourselves.
GCF Fall BBQ (September 25, 2004) - GCF had its annual welcoming BBQ
to start off the school year in North Mesa. As usual, there was
pleanty of food and fun to go around. We also took some time to play
some games like croquet and bocce ball. Everyone had a great time!
Photos from the BBQ are available
here.
Padres Game (September 22, 2004) - GCF went to see the Padres take on
the Dodgers at Petco Park. We had a large group of people go and GCF
was even recogized on one of the big scoreboards! It was a great game
as the Padres won the game 4-0. Photos can be seen
here.
NSO Beach Day (September 18, 2004) - We had a beach day at La Jolla
Shores and invited both new and old students to come out and have a
good time. People socialized, threw frisbees and footballs around,
and walked barefoot in the ocean. This was a great way to get to
know some of the new graduate students and everyone had a good time.
Photos from the beach are located here.
NSO Table (September 17, 2004) - GCF welcomed all new graduate students
with a table at the Graduate Activities Fair during orientation located
at Center Hall. We were excited to talk to so many graduate students
and spend some time getting to know them. We provided cookies and candy
to everyone who stopped by. The day was a great success! Some photos
are available here.
